Culture

a) Population
            i) What’s the population of the country?  Compare this to the population of the US.  (Hint: The US population is 318,860,032 and counting (it gets higher every 8 seconds, but use this number for the assignment.)

According to Mapsoftheworld.com, the population of Mexico is estimated to be about 116,220,947  and counting as of July, 2013. Mexico is the is the eleventh largest country in the world. US stands to be the third largest country in the world.

ii) Where do the people live in this country?  Rural areas?  Urban areas?  What are the populations in the two cities you used for Question 2 b)?

As I was doing my research, I came across asking my friend, Janet Ruiz, about her homeland and what it's like to live in Mexico. I asked here about where do most people live in Mexico and she told me that most people live in the central-western part of the Country, mainly around Mexico City in their suburbs followed by Guadalajara. According to GeoNames Geographical database in the Mongabay.com, the population of Veracruz City is 568,313 and according Worldpopulationreview.com, Mexico city's population is about 9 million in 2013.

b) Agriculture-
            i) What types of agriculture do they have and what type of diet do they have?

According Explorandomexico.com, Mexico is a great producer of sugercane, corn, banana, sorghum, orange, wheat, tomato, lemon, green chile, and potatoes. The types of diet people from Mexico eat would be tamales, elote (corn), burritos, tacos, Spanish rice, Nachos, etc.

c) Industry and Tourism
            i) Are industry and tourism related to geography and climate?

Industry and tourism are related to geography and climate because climate and weather supports the tourist activities. Geography and climate affects the decision of where you should have your tourist activity or when and where to take your trip. For example, if you were someone who's interested in skiing during your trip, you would head to Snowmass, Colorado, as opposed to someone who enjoy the drier climates, they would visit Mexico. Mexico has tropical beaches that bring in vacationers from all over the world.

d) Cultural Activities
            i) Are there any notable historical events that add to the climate/culture story?

According to traditionalmexicanculture.com, Mexico had some of the ancient society's known in our Country in 2000 B.C. such as the Zapotec, Maya, Toltec, and Aztec. Climate could have been involved with the downfall/disappearance of societies because they may have made effort to adapt to the change in their crops and climate. The climate changed in 1846 after the Mexican-American war when Mexico lost half of their lands. If they had not lost the war, that would have included Texas, California, or Colorado as their land.

  1. All of your information on Mexico is very interesting! A little over a year ago, I took a vacation to Cancun, Mexico, but that is such a tourist area that I was unable to really learn anything about REAL Mexican culture. It was interesting to learn about what Mexico is like outside of Cancun (vacation-land).
